What a tough question for me to answer I fear...
Because I know the answer... one I wish was different.
In less than 3 years we have had to have one dog and 2 cats go on a one way road trip to Mr. Vet.

so so so sad.

Hector the guinea pig died in Marc's hands.
Scout the rabbit along with Machine the guinea pig that was always dressed as a skunk found freedom with a family who had loads of rodents... (big fan of craigslist on this one)

We just have our dog Mollie and our orange cat Mr. Jack-0-Lantern laying around the house on 94th Terrace now...

so so so sad.

Mollie is 12 now. She's blind in one eye, has cysts on her back that aren't so lovely...

not many more birthday in her future I fear.

For Valentines Day I entertained a day dream of having the kids skip home from school to find a cute yummy smelling puppy with a heart tied around her neck waiting for their arrival...I think she would have been named something mushy like cupid or lollipop...

My Marc-a-Roni swashed these dreams... reminding me of eaten furniture and pee on the floor.
And kennel fees while we played on vacation...

I'm already dealing with furniture damage... and pee on the floor is soon to be with a potty training toddler...

So I have decided to wait... but not forever... because kids need dogs.

Not only did Zion hold that donut in her precious fingers for a good hour without taking even a nibble she also controlled the bag! I had to PRY that donut free at nap time...

On a happy note... We are done with the prescribed doses of the grumps and our cute little Z is well on the way to felling better!

ROCK STAR TREATMENT

It seem that lately the topic of though has been funerals and the planning there of... I'm all for that... My parents have there's all planned... Right down to the marker being set it place.
It was a bit eerie paying my sister a visit a few weeks ago to find my parents picture on a bench next to her plot with  my name etched as their child.
 My parents were both standing next to me...
how many times will this be the case?

There is a sense of peace knowing where my mothers white laced gloves she would like placed on her hands are. 
Although I love her hands...
she wants them covered. 
So before I put them on
I plan to take a picture of them.

I've never put much thought into my own funeral...
Yes,I know that one day a funeral will be thrown
with me as the guest of honor.
But I'm a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal.
 I seem to live in the moment... enjoy the seconds I am breathing.

 Even with Noah Boy throwing a MASSIVE tantrum in Target today due to a non working dinosaur toy I would not buy for him... all the while Zion screams right along knowing that she may miss out on any attention while I care for the boy.

Not once in all the drama
did my funeral come into my thoughts.

I don't have a lot of reflective time...
 Maybe that's why I haven't thought to make plans
to ease the mourning process...

But when I do reflect I reflect on the living....
And sometimes...
My reflections lead me to direct conversations with my God.

I had a lot of direct moments today...
WE  talked a lot about my cousin, Robin and her husband Don.

Don's a doctor... and amazing... and perfect for Robin.
 Really he's lucky to have her.
Because...
well Robin is a ROCK STAR. 
She told me that herself one time walking to our cars in a large parking lot.
I asked where she parked.  She said
"Oh, I have ROCK STAR parking."


Not everyone gets that you know.

Like my sister, Sharmayn, Robin was born with Cystic Fibrosis.
You know what I have learned about CF?
God gives it to the ROCK STARS.

My mom called me this morning and said that Robbie is in the ICU getting a little ROCK STAR treatment...
Which has lead me to a lot of refection today. 
A lot of direct conversations taking place.
 A lot of family and friends are "reflecting" on Robin and Don's behalf. 

With all this reflection MIRACLES are bound to happen...
Robin and Don... seriously the cutest couple I know!

Each morning I am greeted by the most amazing 2 year old boy around... While I'm sure he is thrilled beyond belief to see his mother with a smile he quietly asks me.. "I watch Dinosaur Train." Some mornings I agree and snuggle in bed with him as we watch his favorite TV friends... Most mornings however my day has been started with a bang and I am on the move... On these mornings he enjoys breakfast at the table with the entertainment of his friends.Even Zion cashed in on some of the morning action today... As soon as Noah hopped off his chair she climbed right up and snacked off his plate...

Mollie didn't even require a plate!

Just the thought of my blog makes me feel uneasy these days...My palms start sweating.. My mind starts racing... I would imagine my heart starts beating so hard one may see the pounding on my chest.
We've been on 2 major vacations... finalized Zion's adoption... had an amazing sealing... laughed a lot... cried a bunch... you know... we've been busy... LIVING! I'm so behind on posting us living I feel as if I am drowning in memories... I have neglected documenting so many moment worth living... My blog isn't for you it is for my 5 sweet birdies that sing in my nest...
My dad recently sent me a study published in June this year by a couple of BYU researchers; it had to do with predicting when youth would participate in binge drinking. The study stated "teens who feel supported and loved and well as monitored by their parents were least likely to engage in heavy drinking."
I dare say our children are young and most likely would not be exposed to drinking any time soon... But recent events have learned that children are exposed much younger than I imagined... the sad reality is that PARENTS become a support of their habit.... The lesson I gleaned from this article it is good idea to provide both supervision and affection in your relationship with your child.
My hopes for my blog for my children to have a physical reference of the love I have for them... Each day I pray that they will feel this love from me... I also plead each day with the Lord to help me not screw them up due to my dumb mistakes!

Before I even saw my Noah boy I was told his birth mother said he had "good hair." Good hair? What do you mean "he has good hair?" He's a baby... who thinks about hair? My Marc-a-Roni and I were given several articles on the subject the importance of hair in the African American culture... and a small direction of how to take special care.

I was and have been a bit overwhelmed and maybe some days take my desire to {DO RIGHT BY} a bit to the extreme. I have read and researched anything and everything on hair care. I have purchased item after item. I fear being looked at as a "white" mother that has no thought or knowledge of how to care for children hair. I find myself guilty of making apologies to people who drop in unannounced if we have not spent the 40 minutes with Noah to condition and comb out each day. And that is just the start of it... Miss Pinkie has her share of hair too... Frankly people...40 freaking minutes on my 2 year old boy's hair may be the dumbest thing I have been doing lately. He hates it... I hate it... but I want to {DO RIGHT BY HIM} Care for his hair so he will feel a sense of pride and self confidence...
I am in love with the look of my little guys Fro. When it is combed an conditioned it is absolutely a sight to behold. But this morning I woke with courage to take a step I have only walked once before...You can read about it here.
After making a few stops on our adventures today I made an appointment with Steven at Urban Views Barber Shop. To say I had butterfly's and hopes to feel no regret was an understatement.

Only 22 days until the 3 oldest birds are home for the summer!
Oh...I do love them home...
I miss them while they are at school.
Our nest is quite without them stirring and fussing.
I could not help but be reminded how much they all love me...
Being Mother's day and all...
I have made note of the small acts of "treasures" they do for me each day...
For example...

Leaving a jacket in a heap on the couch...

Or Stinky socks on the floor....
Oh and lets not forget the lovely well that was made at scouts....
And the endless amounts of flip flops...
(there are a lot of flip flops to be had in a family of 7)

As I fluttered around this morning in my oh so lovely apron and pearls
I was grateful to find these small "treasures" tucked about our nest...
Instead of picking them up and putting them all away I left them there...
each time I passed I noted...
Only 22 days left until my little birds are home with me...

Sadly, I have allowed the grains of "sand" to fester and become large pebbles. I have ended up collecting them you see... placing them in my pocket for safe keeping.... I'm not sure if the comments a person I am in contact with are meant to be unkind or if a naivety plays a large part. Normally, my "thick skin" protects my heart... but please... don't point out skin color to try to connect with me. I don't really like that approach... It has become a bit hurtful.

If this is where you have to go to try for my friendship please don't bother.

Am I glad that you are more aware of others around you?
Of course I am...

Do I care that you see someone that looks like us?
No, Not really.

Have I, myself naively opened my mouth with unkind words in my past hoping for a friendship?
Of course... A few weeks after Noah was born I approached another mother. She was white. Her baby was not. I asked when she adopted her baby. She snapped back that she had not adopted. I was so ashamed of my stereotyping... I was so embarrassed. My palms still break to a cold sweat each time I see this mother with her children. I choose my words a bit more carefully these days.

A needed chat with a friend today help me realize that there is a portion of the world that find the adoption world a bit peculiar. And that it's okay... I like this peculiar world I'm in...
So I am going to set this sadness I am holding tightly too go.... set it free and love is incredible life I have been so generously given.
So to sum this whole thing up ladies... "Sticks and Stones!

A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it...don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiency. What does cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So steak is nothing more than efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef also good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And pork chop can give you 100% of recommended daily allowance of vegetable product.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all.. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up!

A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio two to one, etc.

A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming good for your figure, explain whale to me..

Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine

It's the first day of SPRING today...
THE FIRST DAY!!!

Just yesterday morning I was greeted with sunshine... sweet song birds greeting the morning... warmth...

It was the first day in a long time I greeted Ammon's shorts with a smile... He seemed a bit in shock that I didn't mention that maybe he should wear some pants because it was WINTER... he loves his shorts. I do too.. really... love that he loves to wear shorts... but in the winter? Mom's have to draw the line somewhere... right?

I found the perfect Spring project here for my front door... So I let the house go

It all started with a casual question while in Disney... "Do the girls in Missouri wear the crochet headbands too?" "Crochet headbands???? What a FANTASTIC idea! I'm sure I can make some of those!!!" The research began once I came home. Patterns were chosen, tutorials were watched... YARN was purchased and the fun began! I've even pulled two pretty ladies in the idea with me!!!
Each time My Marc-a-Roni sees me start a new crochet "obsession" he lovely refers to them as "neglect rags" I imagine he eats his words when he sees the pretty little piece on our Jordie's head. If "neglect" looks like this you all better just turn me in... cuz I'm on a roll!

Some years my amazing Marc-a-Roni is SPOT on when it comes to my birthday time.
In our fabulous 11+ years together THIS BIRTHDAY takes GRAND PRIZE.

His scheming and planing started well into the warm summer. With a light airy question from my man:
"What do you want for your birthday, Kear?"
At the time I had only one desire. "A day to play with my friend {Fala}"

Janice and I go way back. We served as Sister Missionaries together in Los Angeles. We were never companions... We didn't need to be in order to become close friends. You know how when a dear friend moves away... at first the calls and emails are daily. And then over time they become less frequent. Maybe once a month... then before you know it a year has past by. But, when one dials the other and your friendship is picked up right where you left off. Like time stood still. I have a small handful of friends like this. I am a believer that some of the dearest friendships that were created in the Heavens before we came to earth are pick up right where we left off and we are able to speak with each other like we had never been apart.
Like time has stood still.

We spent Friday afternoon on the Plaza. We spent our lunch chatting of our beautiful children. Janice and her Super Star husband Charlie have 6. We laughed until our sides hurt and missed our babies while we were enjoying our time together. I always miss my babies while I am away... I was glad that she did too. That I am not the only mama that needs time to myself but can't wait to get back home.

If we didn't eat and shop enough we started Saturday morning with breakfast with all my dear Missouri soul mates! Lisa and Melissa left before we even though to get the camera out.

My sweet Marc-a-Roni had a cake made by my favorite shop in Missouri...
He cared for the kids while I showed Janice the town.
He gave me the Cricut machine I had wanted....
All this just to make a special birthday for his wife.

Thanks babe. I am one lucky girl to have you as my {BFF}!!!

He has a excitement for scouting that I always hoped my son would have. He loves to be part of his pack and work on merit badge after merit badge. In 6 short months Isaac earned his Wolf. He has only a few more arrows to earn before he becomes a Bear!Congratulations by sweet boy!!!

I have never participated in Black Friday before. NEVER. I spend the 2 days before preparing and hosting a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner. Getting by weary body out of bed at 3:45 AM for "the deal of a lifetime" has NEVER interested me... Until this year... I guess my curiosity... and my Fabulously Fun Friend and neighbor Missy... got the best of me this year! We had a blast together! We met in the driveway at 3:45 Am... (still dressed in my jamies) Ran from this "deal" and that "deal" We laughed until our sides hurt! And were home in bed at 6AM. It was a fun little adventure that I hope to take my Marc-a-Roni on next year...

Grateful

Sometimes when we look at the cards we are handed we want to walk away from the game. Sometimes our trials help us learn how to be thankful for something. As Thanksgiving approached I became aware of some of the things I am most grateful for. Not one of my most prized treasures came without struggle or a deep longing. Not one came without feeling a hunger and thirst.

At the young age of 6 my older sister, Sharmayn lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis. It was at 6 I learned about death and life beyond the grave. At 6 I learned that my parents faced sadness too as well as wounded hearts. At 6 I learned that memories are to be shared not stored away in a box. At 6 I learned that sometimes things just happened. That life dreams can be changed. Ten years later my brother, Shawn, met his wife, Carol. At 16 I gained an amazing Sister In Law. We have become the best of friends. Sisters if you will. We have shared clothes, secrets, dreams, sorrow and most importantly Joy. For several years after Sharmayn died I hungered for a sister to share my life with. In no way has Carol replaced the love I have for Sharmayn but today I am grateful she is my friend and sister. I am grateful we can be mothers together and share our joys as well as our sorrows with.

When I was 16 my dad invited me to tag-a-long with him on a business trip to Bolivia and Peru. It was my parents way of helping us see the world a bit. Get a good look at what others had.... or maybe lacked having. We spent an afternoon in a hospital where small babies suffered from malnutrition. I personally saw beautiful babies well beyond hungry level. Who were skin and bones... Who cried out in pain... Who's bellies were bloated. I have never felt hunger in this way. NEVER. When our children speak of feeling starving I am always taken back to this defining moment in my life. I am grateful we have the means to protect our children from this hunger.

When I was 21 I choose to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I loved serving my brothers and sisters. I love speaking of my beliefs of Our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. My companion, Sister Empey and I were assigned to an area of L.A. where we were housed in apartments located on the L.A. Temple grounds. One morning as my companion and I were preparing to leave we noticed a man walking around looking at the different buildings. Thinking he was lost we offered help. He said that he was in Los Angeles on a buisness trip. His hotel was located across from the Temple. Out of curiosity he came. He spoke of a feeling he had never felt before. He stated it had entered his heart the moment he crossed the gate doors. What is this feeling he asked. Sister Empey and I spent hours with Boehmi. Sharing our beliefs, our love for Our Savior, Jesus Chirst, teaching him the Plan our Heavenly Father has prepared for us... Boehmi was from Nepal. The closest church to him was a 2 day travel. Boehmi had a strong desire to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized. After meeting with our Mission President. Our President calling Church Headquarters. Teaching Boehmi all he needed to be taught in order to take the steps of baptism... Boehmi was baptized. All done in ONE day... A true MIRACLE. The next day Boehmi was to return to Nepal. He spoke with excitement of the gift he would be able to bring back to his family. I have never felt the hunger that comes with a lack of knowing things of God. I am grateful to have this knowledge. To know of the Plan of Happiness Our Father has created for us.

After serving in L.A. I came home in hopes to find someone to swing in a tree K*I*S*S*I*N*G... TO love and marry... to have babies in baby carriages... I tried a few boys on for size and none fit my glass slipper. After breaking hearts and having my heart broken...in stepped my fine Prince, Marc-a-Roni. The perfect fit. Our Father had a large part in us finally meeting. I am grateful for my "Sleepless In Seattle" moment with him. I knew he was the one... It just too me longer than to know it was real. That he would be mine for Eternity. I am ever so grateful for my sweet husband. I am grateful for the love he shows me. I am grateful he is the Dad he is for our children. I am over the moon in love with My Marc-a-Roni...This man of mine is amazing...

4 years after our wedding day we had 3 beautiful children. Marc and I felt the hunger of longing for another child. We knew the path we would take to add children to our home would be different then the first 3. We hopped on the roller coaster ride with both feet. We realized along the way the ride was very unpredictable. That not all agencies were honest. There were times I felt knee deep in thick mud. Not knowing who to trust and where to turn. The desires and HUNGER in my soul became all consuming. We were giving a trial September 2008 that I am now grateful I have had. Fail adoption can burden the soul. The moment I turned to Our Father He began to heal my broken heart. My soul began to mend. Just days after I handed my burned to Him our son, Noah, was born. What joy filled my heart. A month after Noah's adoption was final I felt a strong urgency to prepare our homestudy. To jump back on the ride in search of the void I felt. In a few short months we were matched with a birthmom named Katherine and a birthdad named Johnathan. In July our daughter, Zion was born. The hunger I felt as a mother has helped me become the woman I am today. I truly am grateful for the trials we have been given. I have learned through them not only to look to my Father but to hand him the burdens that are so heavy and He will mend my wounded soul.

Our thanksgiving preperations started on Wednesday afternoon. For the past 5 years we have celebrated Thanksgiving with our dear friends. When you don't live near family your friends become family. And that is just what the Veigels are to us... Family.
When I was a young girl my job was to break the bread for the dressing... the job was passed to Jordie a couple of years ago... This year she gained a helper in Hyden... although she said he was in it just to sneak some bites!

Melissa taught Jordie how to make her special homemade rolls...

Prescott was happy to learn too... again... he was happy to help as long has he got a taste of the dough!

Noah thought that all he had to do is look like he wanted to see what was going on and I would not notice that he was trying to sneak an uncooked roll... But I am one smart Mama... He was given some fruit snacks in exchange and sent on his way!

After dinner naps were had by all... Well not all... Jordie and Hyden held down the fort. And the Justesen's went to Planet 51... I am grateful I was able to take a Nap...

After the movie and naps we all met up together again for pie or Whipped Cream and leftovers...

Before the night was over Jordie taught Ammon how to make Ramen noodles for a mid night snack... Such a shame when there are yummy left overs in the fridge. But, you know how the saying goes.. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a year.... Ammon has now been taught the art of Ramen.... he won't starve on his mission...

Since seeing is kinda important to him new glasses were the key....
I thought it would be a good chance to spend a little one on one time with my oldest son. We had a great time on our date. Isaac is quite thrilled with the new glasses he chose for himself... While we waited for them to be made we headed for a quick dinner at Bo Lings... Chinese Please

National Adoption Day...

I read in the paper this morning that yesterday was National Adoption day in America. I could not help but wonder how different my life could be. What if my birth mother had made a different choice? What if? I don't really like to dwell on the "What if" thoughts of life...

I like to think that my birth mom and my Mama were friends in heaven...

I am so thankful for the sacrifice she made for me. She wanted me to be a daughter with both a Mom and Dad who loved and cared for me. Who loved, not only, God but our brother Jesus Christ. I am thankful that Ike and Gloria live in a way that others know what they believe. Because if they had not... My dad's lab partner from class may not have thought of them when her friend told her about her sister who needed to find a Christan family to adopt the child that grew in her belly. I think the Spirit had something to do with my success story.

I am a pretty lucky girl. My mom is one of my VERY best friends. She and I are a lot a like... sometimes too alike. And my dad... Well... I looked for someone JUST LIKE HIM to marry.
I so love my parents. I love all they stand for. I love their crazy jokes and the silly things that make them tick. I love all the made up words my mom uses in her daily vocabulary. She can work a room like no other can. She knows how to kill people with kindness... something I am still working to master... I marvel at their faithfulness. How they love the missionaries they cared for for 3 years. I love the light in their eyes as they speak of their holy experience in Ghana. I love how they love our children.

I love that I am theirs and they are mine... For Eternity.

After trying to get his teeth looked at for a year now it was FINALLY Noah's turn to be the patient. He has hopped up in the chair with Jordie, Isaac and Ammon but today it was his turn to do it all on his own.
To be honest I was shocked at how well behaved he was. He was pleased to wear the special sunglass as well as watch a little T.V. while getting his teeth cleaned.

He was a bit nervous to see Dr. Berry in his scary mask... and held tight to his new friend.

There are a couple of things about the
youngest 2
RitterB babies that people can't resist...

The first is the stunning good looks... They're cute as can be!

The 2nd is their HAIR...
That's right,you can't resist that head of hair!

At first it is the comments... "Look at their hair!" "Oh my gosh I love their hair!" "Did you have to learn how to care for their hair?" "Wow, you don't even need to use headbands for her... she has so much hair."

And then it happens... Just as I know the sun will rise each morning, I know you will reach out and touch that head of theirs... I don't blame you really... I know you are curious of how it feels. It looks super soft... Is it? I don't blame you. I know you can't contain that hand of yours.

For the record... When both Noah and Zion were born their hair was soft as the clouds. I too, could not contain the desire to rub the soft hair along my cheeks...

By the time Noah was a few months old his baby soft hair had fallen out. I remember the day it started falling out in clumps... I was so sad. When it grew back it grew thick and course with tight curls.

Zion was born with a head of hair any woman would want. She has more hair then I could ever imagine. It is thick with soft curls. There is no need for headbands with this baby... Her hair can hold their own to any bow I desire. I have been very careful how I care for "Pinkie's" hair.... With Noah we had a bit of a learning curve...
One thing is for sure....
Nothing can prevent that awful BALD SPOT babies create
for themselves on the back of their head.
I have learned NO amount of HOPE, tummy time, bouncy seat time, bumbo time, moby wrap time, hip huggin' time

can prevent rubbing off their hair while on their back...

*sigh* what's a mama to do?

Our Noah boy... He is a real Gem. Some days I look at him and find myself questioning My Heavenly Father. " What have I done in this life that HE thinks I am deserving to be his mother?" There are lots of couples who long to be parents. Who wait and wait for a child to be placed in their arms. Who's heart is open and prepared to love and nurture. So, how did We get to be his parents? What ever the answer is to my questioning... I am ever so blessed.

Noah boy has become a bit obsessed over the past couple of weeks...

He watched Yo Gabba Gabba and drifted off to sleep in his new fort...

I think Noah knows how cute he is. He for sure knows he is a show stopper. He also knows that we all melt to see him participate in prayer.
He has had folding his arms for months now...

But yesterday he added closing his eyes and bowing his head.
In his mind a hardy AMEN is the best way to finish!
Oh I love this boy! I am so grateful Our Heavenly Father knew he was the PERFECT addition to the RitterB's!

Halloween Adventures started on the 26th of October this year when Hunter the Good Witch invited Jordie Pordie a young Witch in Training to an evening out on the town! Panara Bread was their destination! Hunter came earlier to practice her mad wicked make-up skills... Jordie was in dream land for sure!
On Wednesday we attended our annual church Trunk-OR-Treat... Our friends and neighbors joined us in the festivities... No matter how many tricks I asked for all the kids wanted were treats... go figure...
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow along with Jordie the good witch and the Friendly Cowboy Mr. D waited for the Cute Diva Hannah Montana before gathering goodies.

Mr. D sure loves our babies... If I didn't know any better I would guess HE was their big brother!

What girl doesn't DREAM of wearing TOO much eye shadow and it being accepted in public?
Noah boy dresses as the Frog Prince to the church party... he really makes the cutest rib bit sound.

On Friday the kids attend Missy's annual Halloween party... Well, Not our sweet Isaac. Dumb ol' flu bug choose his body to party in this year... Booooooo Nonetheless... Missy's Boo Fest is THE party of the year folks... Marc-a-roni and I had been invited to attend a charity dinner and missed out this year. We have been given play by play of the spooky adventures from our Good Witch. Sounds like it was Frightfully FUN!
It was fun to have TinkerBell and two Clone Troopers for an evening of Trick-OR- Treating.
Elder Peterson and Elder Davis dressed up as Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They even worked their ties into the color scheme...
Our good buddy Scott dressed up as a husband missing his Soldier! We missed her too... Maybe Buzz misses her most... As for Tink.. well, you know how Tink is...
Mama RitterB could not pass up the moment to make her Noah boy's wildest dreams come true.

When all is said and done Halloween is really ALL about the candy and about how your parents will let you eat as much of it as you want for that one night... After that it is rationed out for the next couple of weeks...

I have spent the past couple of days attending Time Out For Women. This years theme is Sweet Assurance...
Each speaker testified of things "they" knew. Knowledge that helped them as they strive for a closer relationship with our Father.
On Wednesday afternoon my heart stopped beating for a moment. As I opened the blinds along the kitchen wall our back yard came into full view. As if almost over night my trees leaves had changed color. If I were to choose my favorite season based on color I would pick fall. I feel the most peace with burnt orange and Blacks, Browns and ambers. But, is Fall really here? If Fall is here then Winter is creeping around the bend.
Missouri winters are hard on my soul. The bitter cold and snow less days seem to drag on for what seems like years.
{We have a rule here in the RitterB home... A rule made by me... We are to pick a season and ONE season only to complain. For example: One can not whine about how HOT they are at the Zoo on a sunny summer day and Cry about the extreme FRIDGED air in the dead of winter. Yes, it is uncomfortable to be hot and sweaty. Yes, it is uncomfortable to be freezing your bum off... But I dont want to hear about both... SO PICK YOUR SEASON AND COMPLAIN AWAY! Last Wednesday my SEASON TO COMPLAIN officially started! I HATE THAT WINTER IS ON IT'S WAY!!!}
I think maybe our Father knows the dread I feel with the cold. I think maybe he is helping me ease into the idea this year. This year our tree in the backyard is particularly beautiful. Beautiful enough to make my heart stop for just a moment and marvel at His creation. While taking a few pictures I could not help but think that in a couple of weeks my tree will be stripped of all it's leaves. It will be left bare.
I really enjoyed my flower in my faith pot this year. It reminded me of my sister, Sharmayn, purple always does that. I noticed as I came back to the house that my flower was still in bloom. Yet, was dying. The stems had started turning brown and no longer held tight to the tiny buds it worked so hard to produce. Like it or not... Winter is on it's way. *sigh*
We were asked several times today to jot down some things "I KNOW." I thought of my purple flowers and my tree full of Burnt Orange, Amber and Browns.
[I know each year Winter will come. She will stay for a while. But, I KNOW that the sun will shine and the warmth will come again.]

I am most grateful for the lessons I have been taught over the past couple of days. I'm a lucky girl you know. My Marc-a-Roni held down the fort quite nicely. He is good like that to me. [I KNOW I have him for Eternity... ]

The kids were intrigued right from the start. Fresh bamboo lined the path as we entered the building.

Sometimes we wait oh so long for something special to come.... I have waited 9 long years for this something special. Today I learned that my oh so long wait has a VERY possible arrival day of November 13, 2009. And that oh so long VERY possibly will arrive the very same day as his OH SO BEAUTIFUL big sister. Just 19 years later. His Mom and Dad say they will call him Eli Jennings. I imagine he is busy with goodbyes to his Grandma Janice and Aunt Sharmayn. I bet they have enjoyed him. I know we all will.

Little miss "Pinkie" has really put a twist into the busy life at the RitterB's. A few of my favorite things to do have been placed on the back burner. My daily blog entries have been simmering and stewing... Just waiting to be posted.
Winter would not be the same if we didn't have jars of salsa lining the shelves. Jordie is the perfect helper. She peels the skin off the tomatoes and prepares them to be chopped. Once everything is in the stock pot we take turns stirring. She keeps track of the time and make sure we are on top of things. All for perfect summer salsa in the darkness of winter!

Just another day in Paradise

Seriously what parent puts their almost 3 month old in a Bumbo? I do... this girl wants to stand and be held all the time! The swing is just not cutting it and you all have seen what happens during tummy time! And look at the smile it produced!!!
Sunday was a nightmare at church with Noah. Even a well seasoned Mama knows that there is no fixin' 1 o'clock church. Noah and I spent most of sacrament meeting in the mothers lounge. I thought that maybe if I rocked him he would drift off to dreamland and would wake with a smile on his face. Which would mean a chance he would go and stay in nursery. Nope... here is what happened...rocking humming... a 20 minute kicking and screaming tantrum full of the death roll move... more humming and rocking... and then it happened! Sweet slumber!!!! ahhhhh.... a few more moments and he will be sleeping deep enough to walk back into Sacrament meeting.... then she came... we all know her... the mom with the starving baby... Noah stirred for a moment but fell softly back to sleep... until 2 stinky diaper changes came in back to back! That was it... all over... we went back to sit with Daddy... Until he crashed his forehead on the bench in front of us... For the Love of Pete!
The lesson learned from this....
If Sunday's Naps are missed... They are made up on Monday... Even if you are in the middle of your happy meal and think your new car is a nuggie!!!
I'm glad I have 4 more days until Sunday!

When the Wonder Comes...

This post is long long over due. So many times in the past 7 weeks I have wanted to share our our adoption experience. But I find myself wordless. How can I share my thoughts publicly yet stay private? You see, Little Miss Zion is deeply loved. Of course the RitterB's love her. She is the daughter and sister they have each longed for. We have prayed for the time the Lord would bless us with a sweet girl. As a mother I felt a literal pain in my heart as I longed for another daughter. Jordie and I have a special bond you know. A bond that can only be felt between mother daughter. I am filled with excitement as I think of her future. Of Love and marriage, and babies in a baby carriage. Something I know she will be amazing at. Maybe it is my greed that made me long for another daughter to dream with. Maybe my hearts desire is not greed at all.
I have started this entry over and over. An entry that maybe Miss Zion will cling to one day. There will be a time when you, Zion, may have a mind filled with wonder. You may desire to know about your birth. About the woman who helped you grow warm and safe inside of her. About the man she loves. This part is about them. Katherine and John are their names. We chatted several times on the phone before you were born. It seemed so easy to have become so close to them. John is a strong Baptist man. He had strong feelings about your name. He asked that Daddy and I make sure we chose a name that was unique with meaning. We hope we have done right by him.
On July 5th at 12:45 in the morning our phone rang. We knew what that call was all about. We had been waiting for weeks for you to make your grand entrance. By 1:15 we were on the road headed towards you. Our minds and hearts raced as we traveled. How was "Kat" doing? Had you been born? Were you healthy? Were the doctors and nurses treating "Kat" kindly? Lots of worries....We had constant communication with our Heavenly Father. We knew that adoptions like this were risky. As adoptions always are.
We arrived at 9:30am. We quickly showered and headed to the hospital to meet you. My heart raced. I found myself scared. Would I be the kind of woman "Kat" had imagined? We enjoyed talking on the phone. Would our connection be the same in person? Would I be able to swallow the ugly cry back? I remember Daddy taking my hand in his and smiling.
Katherine sat in bed holding you in her arms. When I saw her I KNEW her. It was as if my spirit jumped with joy. It was a little bit what like Heaven will be like I imagine. She held you out to us and said "Meet your daughter." Oh how beautiful. We sat together just he 4 of us. You, Daddy, Me and Katherine. John came a little while later. We all talked about you. John and Katherine told us how much they loved you. How if they could, they would have you as their daughter. You stayed in the hospital for 2 days. Lots of emotions were felt during that time. Emotions of grief and sorrow. Feelings of loss and despair. Joy and love were felt too. Oh how John and Katherine wanted you. Oh how Daddy and I wanted you. One afternoon Katherine and I sat together on her bed. She wanted to be your mother. She wished things were different. She was so sad. We sat together and cried. She was mourning the loss of you. I mourned with her. She was so sad she would not see you grow and become a beautiful young woman. Katherine and John made the choice for Daddy and I to be your parents out of LOVE. Pure Unselfishness. It was at this point that our adoption took a turn in a different direction. It was this day Daddy and I wanted our adoption to be an open adoption. Zion, we love your biological parents very much. We want them to find peace in their decision. We hope that allowing them to see you grow will help them heal.
I can say I am a different woman having gone through this experience. I have been forever changed. I have mourned in a way I never had imagined to. I know how it is to hold your breath waiting to see how things will turn out. I know what it feels like to want everyone to be happy but know that in the end someone will be hurt and need to heal. I can never get over that one.
A few nights ago in the wee hours of the morning I fed you a bottle. As you drifted off to sleep I gave you two kisses... one was from me... and the other? It was from "Kat." We both love you so. So when that wonder comes.. I hope you will come to me. We will snuggle together in a warm blanket, sip hot cocoa and talk. I have so much more to share with you my baby girl. So much more.

From the sound of the can snapping open to the tiny bubbles burning my throat as I take the first swallow. I love the taste and smell. The dark brown color with pretty clear ice cubes floating in a tall glass full.

I heart the stuff!

My mom and I went to Sonic a couple days ago and I found myself wanting to order my usual route 44 DOUBLE the caffeine. All I could think about today at church was the luscious stuff. I figured that I would not set the best example to others around me as I slurped down my caffeinated beverage.

You see... Pinkie has us all walking in a zombie like state. The honeymoon period is over and middle of the night feedings are not as full of wonder. Oh I love her I do... I was just hoping that 3 hour between feeding periods would be here by now.

Today I will officially blog we are home.

Our amazing dream girl, and I are home.

Together. Home...

We rode an emotion ride like no other we had ever imagined. Our journey with Zion's birth mom and dad has been amazing. One on true love and trust. Full of humility and gratitude. Together with our eye on the prize. 4 parents wanting the very best for one girl.

I think we have come to a nice place. A place where Zion will know of the love they have for her. A place where Zion will know how blessed she is. A place where healing can take place for her birth parents.

I have had many requests for more pictures please. Sometimes sharing is hard even when you are 36... But I KNOW she is mine...

and that sharing is Nice.

My hearts desire.

In just a few short hours our sweet baby girl will be one week old.

I am humbled to the core to see the love our Heavenly Father has for Marc and I. Is it true that I will be given my hearts desire to be a mother of another girl? Oh I love my boys... I do.

But it is special to have a girl. And to think... HE has given me two.

This week has been filled with more emotion and stress then I have ever Marc and I have found a deep love and admiration

for Zion's birth mother and father.

We have mourned with those that mourned this week.

I worry that maybe my prayers have become redundant. They are constantly consuming my thoughts. I want so much to have Zion's birth parents hearts to be healed. I want so much for their burdens to become light. I want so much for them to find comfort in KNOWING that their choice was right. May Our Loving God give them this tender mercy.

This years 4th has been over shadowed a bit with our full anxiety awaiting our "Pinkie's" arrival. We have NO decorations displayed. Seems a bit usual. Marc-a-Roni thinks today will be the {perfect} day for her arrival! Like a firework!

Speaking of fireworks! We bought some earlier this week at Big Toms in Smithville. Big Tom Rocks... his cute sidekick daughter, Tristin, knows just what the young boys want to see. If the boys threw in junk she replaced it with a bundle of fun. We blew all the fireworks on Thursday... guess a trip to Big Toms in order this morning... I don't mind. I love watching the boys browse the explosives... as for our Jordie girl she couldn't care less... she is there to swap stories.

Looks like our day is filled with lots of fun and adventure. We have 2 parties to attend and enjoy.

But just in case... Marc-a-Roni have our suitcase packed.

Not much in the way of food in the fridge since Pinkie will arrive at ANY MOMENT! So Chinese was the choice tonight...

There were 6 fortune cookies in the bag. One for each of us. But the kids were out back playing so nicely. Marc-a-Roni and I each ate 3. Each fortune read we hoped for a sign of a water break! Here is how it all went down.

If you wonder about "Pinkie's" birth mama.

She is dilated at a 5. She is still on bed rest.

With "Pinkie" growing nice and plump inside.

If you wonder if we pray that "Pinkie's" birth mama's water will break.

The answer is nope... Marc-a-Roni says that's not so nice...

So instead he asks we Pray for a healthy "Pinkie."

And a well birth mama.

Field Trips

When I was a child my Dad liked taking us on "self proclaimed" {FIELD TRIPS} Some were fun and full of adventure... Others... Full of adventure but not so fun...
Take for instance... A trip to White Castle... A TINY Square hamburger patty, punched with holes, grilled onion, on a teeny tiny bun... CREEPY...
Dale Spencer eating 15 of them... ADVENTURE!
Yesterday, without any advance thought Cheryl and I loaded the kids in the car and headed down to Crown Center. It was time for Bubba's first experience at Fritz's!
The food is terrible... But the adventure of your lunch being served by a train car...ADVENTURE!
And so it has started... A train crazed baby boy! "CHOO CHOO"

Up Up Up he Grows

As each day passes our Mr Noah Boy grows. It feels as just last month I woke to learn of his birth and packed my bag in a frenzy to meet him. It was just last month you woke every 2 hours in protest with your empty tummy. Just last month we stood in awe at the love our Father in Heaven had shown us. Just last month....
Now look at you a full grown toddler! Mr. Independent... Each day learning something new. You are a quiet boy. You make full observation of things before you act. You watch you brothers wrestle with daddy before you jump in making full blown grunting and groaning sounds. You watch your sister color and draw before you pick up a crayon and draw... Even if your paper is our kitchen floor.

Can it be you are old enough to play dress up? Where did my time go? I felt as if I managed the time well when I was in the moment. But here I am today thinking "boy the time has flown!"

You won't settle for sharing a orange icecream pop.... you want your own... Just like the big kids!

Eating cereal is much more fun when you can do it on your own. What a big boy you are!

You found that Grandma Gloria makes the BEST snicker doodles in the whole wide world... And not matter what time of day it is or where you are sitting... she'll give you one... She's good like that...

I worry that "Pinkie" may rock your boat a bit...

You are the center of many lives here in our little part of the world.

A bit of a Dither...

I admit we are in a bit of a dither here at the RitterB's.

Albeit, not an unfamiliar dither.

But a quandary non the less.
"Pinkie" is do to make her grand entrance into this blustery world any day now. If you were to ask me 2 weeks ago what her given name would be you would have been told "Miracle Rose" for she is truly are Miracle from our loving God. A week ago as Marc-a-Roni and I drifted to dreamland my resolution of her name began to sink.. Like quicksand in a way. So our search began. Marc-a-Roni and I began to rattle off name after name.. We believe "Pinkie's" name must be unique.
We had an amazing phone visit with "Pinkie's" birth mom last night... We also chatted with the birth dad. Did I say it was an amazing visit? SO AMAZING... We talked about names. They have a name they will call her. It is a beautiful name. I shared how Rose would be her middle name. Named after her mama. My foster parents named me Rose. I have always loved that name. This morning on my blog stroll I came across this video "clip....
Maybe we should call her

Is our boy really old enough to set sail off to Cub Scout Day Camp? I found myself nervous last night checking and checking again that Isaac had all the necessary things on the list. Of course I tossed in a few things for good measure. Once he rode away... I remembered the hand sanitizer wipes I thought of in the middle of the night. It Day Camp I keep telling myself.... The place where they play in the dirt, explore unknown territory, learn to shoot bow and arrows! "Take a deep breath" I say... "Enjoy Watching him GROW..."

One things for sure. Ammon sure is going to miss his Partner in Crime this week. The two are inseparable!

It won't be the same taking your Guinea Pigs on a High Adventure with out your big brother!

Isaac was baptized yesterday. He is now officially a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I am honored and humbled to be called your mother. You are a shining example to everyone that comes in contact with you.
I love how you will NEVER take a bite of food without Thanking the Lord first.
I love how you are kind to your friends. How you worry for them and their happiness.
I love that your favorite color is "GOLDEN"
I loved the smile across your face as you came from the waters of baptism.

Isaac and his buddy Matt had birthdays just a few days apart from each other. It was fun to share the day with him.

Grandma Gloria and Grandpa Ike wouldn't miss your special day.
We have many friends we call "family" here in Kansas City. Your "Uncle's" stood in the circle as you received the Holy Ghost.
Your sister Jordie and Matt's sister Hope sang for the program.
Your Primary teacher came to witness your special day.
Of course the Kanenwisher's were there.... We missed Boyd and Hunter... they were out of town but they were there in spirit!
Sam and Sariah were happy to be there!
The Aulner's came too... Wayne witnessed along with Grandpa. And Benny... well Benny wore his CTR tie from Ghana.

Where has my time gone? Just moments ago you were my baby boy...My tiny beach sandy blonde headed boy. You were born by c-section. Two days before you were born I mowed the grass and hand washed the car. You have a perfect nose.

We named you Isaac Marc.

After two men I love most.

You are my "peace" boy. You love others that some may find hard to love. I have learned how to be a better friend to others by watching you.
I love this picture of you. Not only are you happy but you hold my pink heart in your hand.

Weight on Her Shoulders

Our call went well. Much better than I expected. 45 minutes. We talked of her children and grandchildren. We talked about the world she holds on her shoulders. It is a heavy world she holds. Please Pray for her.
She asked if we were ready for "PINKIE." She told us that "Pinkie" was a whoopsy. I said "I needed someone to have a whoopsy to help us get our "PINKIE."

The Phone will Ring...

We have a conference call scheduled with "Pinkie's" birth mom tomorrow. I am a ball of nerves. I have fears of being tongue tied. Will I be able to control myself. What am I to say to the woman who will give me her child to love and care for? We have never met Noah boys mama. Yet, I have a bond with her unlike any bond I have ever had. Just thinking about "Pinkie's" birth mom forms a lump in my throat. My heart skips a beat and my eyes well with tears. How am I ever going to keep it together?

Marc-a-Roni and I will be able to meet her in the hospital. When I see her will I know her? Will I be given another tender mercy to get a peek beyond my worldly sight? Will I remember her and I together in Heaven? I believe we have known each other before our earthly existence. I imagine she knew we would need a little help getting "Pinkie" to our family here on earth. I imagine she was willing to help us out.

It's hard not to have that nagging feeling in a small place of your heart saying "be careful, you may be hurt." It has happened before. Almost 2 years ago my world stopped spinning for a moment. But it was just for a moment because Our Father helped me get back up and brush myself off.

So if my world does stop spinning for a moment sometime in the next 7 weeks... Don't fret.... I'll be ok. Until "Pinkie" is in my arms I will walk tall with FAITH in His Plan.
