day dreamer

In response to my friend Kristen's blog question:

{TO DOG OR NOT TO DOG}

What a tough question for me to answer I fear...
Because I know the answer... one I wish was different.
In less than 3 years we have had to have one dog and 2 cats go on a one way road trip to Mr. Vet.

so so so sad.

Hector the guinea pig died in Marc's hands.
Scout the rabbit along with Machine the guinea pig that was always dressed as a skunk found freedom with a family who had loads of rodents... (big fan of craigslist on this one)

We just have our dog Mollie and our orange cat Mr. Jack-0-Lantern laying around the house on 94th Terrace now...

so so so sad.

Mollie is 12 now. She's blind in one eye, has cysts on her back that aren't so lovely...

not many more birthday in her future I fear.

For Valentines Day I entertained a day dream of having the kids skip home from school to find a cute yummy smelling puppy with a heart tied around her neck waiting for their arrival...I think she would have been named something mushy like cupid or lollipop...

My Marc-a-Roni swashed these dreams... reminding me of eaten furniture and pee on the floor.
And kennel fees while we played on vacation...

I'm already dealing with furniture damage... and pee on the floor is soon to be with a potty training toddler...

So I have decided to wait... but not forever... because kids need dogs.

Thank You for this!
I thought it was nuts entertaining the idea today. We may yet wait a little, but I have loved our dogs. And I too can't imagine our children growing up in a home without.

Can't wait to see what the future brings for your household.

Oh, and that print is adorable by the way

So you are basically saying that all I did was delay the inevitable...

You know, I used to think Marc was the animal lover that had turned your house into a zoo, but now I see that it is you!!

Be careful, if you add another dog, Haley may just pack up and move in with you. I have told her that we will not have a dog until we are done having babies and they are all potty-trained. I only deal with pee on the floor from one creature at a time. She is so not happy that we want to have a 4th just for this reason.

BUT - that would have been the cutest valentine's day gift ever! Maybe on the first day of school your kids can find a new little friend waiting at home for them - after all, you will be done potty training your 2 littles after this summer. Just a thought :)

Definitely do the dog. We waited many years to make the decision to get a dog, an indoor pet...and the only bad thing is why did we wait so long?
They are work. But they bring such joy. Children need them. I need them. My dog has filled many lonely hours. I can be in despair and she will crawl up next to me and the world is right again. I never knew that owning a pet could be so heavenly. Truly...it is the hardest/best job in the home.

I am so done with pets. We still have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They seem to be immortal. I have nothing that doesn't come complete with a blanket of pet hair. Maybe a robot dog would be a better gift for the kids?
