Call Out

We are planning a fun filled afternoon for Isaac's 7th birthday. The plan is a water relay/fight, sidewalk chalk, dinner and ending with a science experiment show hosted by non-other Mr. Marc-a-Roni ... We have water games galore! Imagination will be brought for the chalk and Papa Johns is the best dinner in town for a group of 7 year olds... However I am short on science experiments. I am so open for ideas... any ideas your willing to part with? I am hoping not to have to spend hours on the internet....

I saw a thing on the Ellen show recently. I'm not sure if it is a science experiment or more of a magic thing, but probably more of a magic thing I guess. Anyways...They took the filling from a diaper and put it into a cup (without people knowing) And then you fill the cup with water. What happens is that the diaper filling turns solid so you can turn the cup upside down and nothing comes out. They had her put a piece of paper on the cup and hold it with her hand while turning it upside down. Then put it on her head and then removed the paper. It was fun! I also know a juggler-if you are interested. James could probably even practice his torches again.

This experiment is dental hygiene related, but still pretty cool. You need strophone (sp?) cups, kayo syrup, and acetone. The cups are supposed to represent our teeth. Pouring the kayo syrup represents plaque on teeth when we don't brush. Plaque sitting on our teeth creates an acid (acetone). When that acid sits on our teeth (you pour the acetone on the "teeth") it decays our teeth (and dissolves the cups.) A learning and cool science project! When I have done this for kids at schools they think it is the coolest thing ever. :-)

you can make home made slime. Kids like to play with that. I think that it's just corn starch mixed with water, and you can add food coloring. It's just weird playing with it in your hands/fingers and kids dig it.
